These four- and five-piece combos feature dynamic musicians of the Frisco jazz revival who jammed weekly in a Berkeley dive. At the peak of their musical powers were 6' 5" Louisiana-via Paris clarinet player Frank "Big Boy" Goudie, young trombonist Bob Mielke, then leading his own popular Bearcats jazz band, and piano player Bill Erickson, a brilliant but now forgotten talent who led combos and jam sessions.
Their adventurous style and repertoire were more influenced by New Orleans, Harlem and Kansas City swing than by the Trad Jazz of Watters and Murphy. Goudie's masterful Creole clarinet shines luminously, forged by thirty years playing with the jazz elite of Europe, 1925-55.
Volumes Two and Three include a mystery trumpet player rounding out the combo for a New Orleans-style front line. It was probably one Jerry Blumberg who fused the gritty New Orleans horn style of Bunk Johnson with the classy New York sound of Bobby Hackett. In vivid stereo, these are the best performances available by the elusive Goudie, Erickson or Blumberg.

Richy Kicklighter is best known for his strong original compositions and his smooth, melodic playing style, and "Unknown" is a fantastic example of Richy's unique guitar work in action.
Richy first came to prominence in the late 1980s after releasing his debut album "Just For Kicks," which was an immediate hit on contemporary jazz radio, charting both in the USA and overseas. Over the next several years Richy continued to record and release charting albums which established him as one of the most prominent new jazz guitarists of the era. Since then Richy has continued to expand the musical genres found on his albums to include blues, R&B, and world beat influences. These other stylistic elements, fused with his trademark style of melodic jazz guitar, have helped Richy to create a unique sound that is all his own.
Featuring 8 original compositions done in the way only Richy can, "Unknown" is classic Richy Kicklighter at his best.
"Jazz For After Hours" is the debut album from the Ron Weinstein Trio. This album features pianist Ron Weinstein, Jeff Johnson on bass, and Byron Vannoy on drums. The Unique Ministry known as THE GOSPEL METS is a fine example of Gospel Singers carrying more than a message in songs. THE GOSPEL METS singing, preaching, praying, and prophetic Ministry through the gifts of the Spirit enable them to Minister to the needs of all people, and are under the leadership of Pastor-Evangelist Edith Langston.
THE GOSPEL METS (MESSENGERS OF EDIFYING TRUTH AND SALVATION) were formed in 1963 and began singing in their local area. Within the year they began to perform throughout their home state of Florida. By 1966, they began traveling to other southern states on the weekends. There have been many singers and musicians that started with the group that have moved away and are making it big on a national level, others that stayed in the local area are managers, musicians, and ministers of groups and choirs.
Since 1978 God has blessed this Ministry as a family group, and in 1980 they began working in full Gospel Ministry. Being a family working together in unity has aided in the stability over the years as they have striven to fulfill their vision by conducting Spirit-Filled Revivals.

Mezz Mezzrow is one of Jazz music's most interesting characters, and was responsible for putting together many of the greatest sessions in Jazz history. This concert, recorded January 1st 1947, was put on to celebrate the release of his autobiography, "Really The Blues", and to help with the festivities Mezzrow enlisted many of the greatest purveyors of traditional Jazz the world has ever known. Most notably Sidney Bechet aided the performance with his characteristically amazing soprano sax work, and Muggsy Spanier blew his cornet as good as anyone could ever be expected to! Also featured are the legendary Sammy Price tickling the ivories, long time associate Sandy Williams on trombone, the incomparable Wellman Braud on bass, and the widely influential Baby Dodds finishing off the band on drums. In addition to the main band Mezz was joined by long time friends (and recording artists on Mezz's own King Jazz label) Coot Grant and Kid Wilson who present a very playful version of their own song You Can't Do That To Me.
Although not of the highest audio fidelity, these rare recordings offer a great insight into the New York scene at the time. So sit back and enjoy this rare glimpse into the past, with these Jazz pioneers practicing their craft as only they could.
This remarkable solo piano session was recorded by Hines the same day as his legendary comeback concert at the Little Theatre in New York March 7th, 1964. It was his first solo recording session since 1956, but Hines was immediately right at home. It's a memorable example of Hines playing some standards, a few of his own compositions, and with all of them doing an exquisite job. This album is Jazz Piano at its best, and is a great addition to any Earl Hines collection.

This album features The Earl Hines All Star Sextet performing live at the famed Club Hangover in San Francisco California in 1957. These songs are, like all reunions of jazz stars, reminiscent, timeless, and comfortable. The tunes are familiar, everything that needs proving has already been proved, and Hines is among friends. Muggsy Spanier plays cornet, Jimmy Archey trombone, Darnell Howard clarinet, Pops Foster bass, and Earl Watkins drums. The ensemble around Hines includes a touch of New Orleans, black and white, and a generous helping of Chicago in the heyday of Hines. It is impossible to find Hines in a more natural environment, and in this setting Hines shines.

This compact disc presents a selection of folk songs from the Dustbowl and Great Depression Era. The music on this album is a uniquely American type of folk known as the Talking Blues . The Talking Blues is a style of folk that puts the lyrical content up front as the driving force of the song. The lyrics are spoken in a regular talking voice (as opposed to being sung), and are generally accompanied by a simple chord pattern played on the guitar or banjo. Performed by prolific folk recording artists Pat Foster and Dick Weissman, these recordings are representative of what you would have actually heard being performed around the nation during that turbulent era in American History. These songs truly capture the spirit of the time, they are like a window to the past. They illustrate how many things never change in the realm of human interaction. Discontent with the government, disdain for the status quo, and the plight of the working man are all themes that are just as relevant and important today as they were then.
This album features a selection of some of the legendary Maurice Chevalier's best Romantic songs, including the fan favorites "Louise" and "Mimi".
Django Reinhardt was the first European Jazz musician to influence musicians back in the United States. He was born Jan 23, 1910 in Belgium, and grew up in a Gypsy camp near Paris. His Gypsy upbringing was heavily influential on his playing style, which was very unique and groundbreaking. Throughout his life he was constantly breaking new ground, always ahead of the pack. In addition to his huge pre-WWII influence on Jazz guitar he was one of the first musicians to develop Bop Jazz. This album features recordings that were made in 1947 with the reformed Quintette Of The Hot Club Of France. On these recordings Django is playing with a more traditional band, as opposed to the all string group he was playing with before WWII. The difference in instruments found on this record gives a different feel to the music, although it is still distinctly Django.

Charlie Barnet was born on Oct.26, 1913, in New York, NY and died on Sept. 4, 1991, in San Diego, CA. His main instrument was the Tenor Sax and his playing was greatly influenced by Coleman Hawkins. He also played Alto Sax and his style was based on that of Johnny Hodges. Charlie Barnett was also, along with the great Sidney Bechet, one of the few of that period (the 30 s and 40 s) to play the Soprano Sax. Charlie Barnet was born into a wealthy family and, although his parents preferred that he become a lawyer, was a professional musician by the age of sixteen. Arriving in New York in 1932, he began recording as a bandleader a year later. His 1939 recording of Cherokee was a big hit and he became quite famous. His career was at its apex from 1939 1949. After disbanding his regular group in 1949, which included a great Trumpet section consisting of Maynard Ferguson, Doc Severinsen, Ray Wetzel, and Rolf Ericson, Charlie Barnet continued to tour occasionally.
